Best Writing YouTube Channels as of early 2025

While there’s a lot of slop on YouTube, I’ve managed to find a few great channels over the years. Here are some of my favorite writing channels on Youtube:

Please note that I am being paid by none of these people, I just wanted to share some of the good that’s out there for writers.

Overly Sarcastic Productions

Overly Sarcrastic Productions is run by two people, Red and Blue. Blue covers things more related to history, while Red works on the videos pertaining to mythology and writing. I would highly recommend their series Trope Talks which is exactly what it says on the tin. When talking about mythology, they give appropriate context without coming off as either overbearing or overly flippant. Red also does the art for the channel, which makes the whole thing much more engaging.

Hello Future Me

Hello Future Me is a channel exclusively about writing. Possibly the most elemental and educational of the writing channels listed here. Timothy Hickson, who runs the channel has collected and expanded many of his video essays on writing topics and put them in his On Writing and Worldbuilding series, which I would highly recommend as well.

Savage Books Literary Editing

Savage Books was one of my more recent finds on Youtube. Counter to his name, A.K. Savage has one of the most positive perspectives on writing, even bad writing, that I’ve found. He also offers editing services on his website, which makes him the only editor I’ve ever had a parasocial relationship with. Expect well written content delivered in a voice that is very calming and friendly. He makes writing feel more approachable.

Terrible Writing Advice

Terrible Writing Advice lays on the sarcasm so thick you could drown in it, but the style is secondary to the content. The tongue-in-cheek delivery of JP, who runs the channel came across as grating to me intiailly, and still does. What moves me past the less than serious tone is how seriously he takes the topics he’s writing on. Some of his remarks cut deeper than you’d expect, or leave you justifying to no one in particular just why your case is different from other writers. I think overall he might be one of the best writers talking about writing on Youtube.

Tale Foundry

Finally, we come to Tale Foundry. Tale Foundry is more philosophical in nature than the channels previously listed. They ask a question, draw conclusions, and leave the viewer with more questions. I especially appreciate the broad range of topics addressed by this channel.
