Update 44 - 100K Words in True North

Happy 2025. I don’t think people keep resolutions often, and I’d rather not participate in empty rituals. I set a goal for myself, which was just to re-emphasize something I’ve already tried to do. 1,000 words a day in my manuscript, 10,000 words in a week. And I’ve hit that so far every week of this year.

I’m at about 117,000 words for the whole of the story. Most of my work over the past four years has been world building and writing out fragments of stories. I haven’t really had the courage to try and publish a book in earnest.

So I’ve started with the mythology, and the history, all of which belongs in the first volume of the story. It’s been enjoyable, and a bit of an escape. The world does not seem to be doing well. The “fuck-you-got-mine” crowd got their man on the throne. The guy who bankrolled the puppet king just threw a couple nazi salutes at the end of his inauguration speech.

There are other things I’m working on, but there’s only so much one person can do outside of their medium. Writing is an escape for me, and I’m grateful its a creative escape. I'll self-publish at least one book this year. I look forward to documenting the process.
