Update 10 - Heart of the Game, Buffalo, NY
Last Friday I finally played Magic with new people. My partner and I went to Heart of the Game, not far from our apartment in south buffalo. Friday night they have commander brackets going, and it was incredibly accommodating.
I’ll go on about my experience with the game itself, but first I just wanted to recommend this game shop for people around Buffalo, NY. They’re not paying me, I was just pleased with how approachable they were. Their selection is stupid wide from video games, to tabletop games, to card games, to roleplaying games. Would recommend, I think I’m going again next weekend. I yoinked their facebook page’s image for this post. If you have specific cards you want, you can hit them up on messenger and they’ll let you know when the cards are handy.
https://heartsofthegame.com/ is their website. I imagine heartofthegame dot com was already taken, and they’re hoping nobody will notice the s. Give them some love.
Anyway- Friday Night Magic was fun. I played a three man round of commander, and placed second. The guys playing were happy to answer any questions I had. It felt nice to be in the middle of a room full of guys laughing and shouting over something so simple. It’s a card game- one with depth and strategy, but just a game- and we were all loving it. I wasn’t blasted, I wasn’t stoned off my ass. I didn’t even go out to smoke during the match, which lasted the better part of an hour. I just wanted to say- it was fun. I didn’t feel awkward or left out, and I’m really thankful to have found a local game store like Heart of the Game. I’m grateful for the people there playing a card game around and with me.
Happy Sunday. Do something fun. I’m going to keep on going through my novel notes.
Why do I always want to sign these things off with “I love you?” I feel like a kid trying desperately to not accidentally call his teacher “mommy'“.
